The applications for FIBCs are countless, because of their diversity and the many different options there are. One of the finishing touches for choosing your FIBC is whether you should work with a lined or coated bag or one with a liner. What are the differences and what’s the best solution for you? Read on to find out!
Big Bags with liners
In an earlier blog post, we explained that liners protect against contamination, moisture, and oxygen. When working with a ‘separate’ liner, a poly liner is either inserted loosely or directly attached to the bag. This option is often used for the storing and transportation of fine powders and serves as an additional moisture barrier.
What’s the advantage of a separate liner? When they are combined with a multi-use bag (6:1 safety ratio) the liner can be removed and replaced with a new liner. This allows you to re-use the FIBC. Find out more about big bag liners and their benefits in this previous article.
Big Bags can also be supplied with a pre-installed liner that is built into the woven polypropylene. This offers fewer possibilities for re-using the bag but does come with some advantages. For instance, there are countless combinations for bulk bags with liners installed. This allows you to use the lined bags for a big variety of products and applications.
Coated Bulk Bags
Last, but not least, you can choose a coated FIBC. They are similar to standard big bags, but before sewing the bag together, an additional polypropylene film is added to the bag’s fabric, either inside or outside of the bag. This seals the small gaps in the poly weaves.
Apart from the additional protection a coated bag offers, it has some benefits on the inside as well. For instance, with an inside application, products such as powders can no longer get stuck in the weave when discharged.
