Wherever in the world you are, there will be insects that are anything but welcome in your Big Bags. Whether it’s right after harvesting at the farms, or in production facilities: keeping your product safe is always a top priority. Especially for the food and pharma industry, where pests in products can also put consumers at risk. Modified Atmosphere keeps your product safe in the bag, but how do you keep your entire facility as clean as you can?
One of the great benefits of Modified Atmosphere in FIBCs, is that you can store the products for longer. That comes with a challenge, though. While you don’t need to worry about the bag and your product - you do want to keep its surroundings clean and insect free, too. Here are four things to keep in mind when you want your product and your property to stay as clean as can be.
1. Keep your bags inside
There are more reasons we have for storing Big Bags inside, such as the influence of the sun, but also when keeping pests out of your facility, it helps to not drag anything from the outside in. If you do (temporarily) have to do this, make sure bags go through a thorough check-up before coming back inside, making sure no insects are being carried in.
2. Cool and dry storage
Store your bags filled with product in a cool, dry place: insects hate it there. Avoid moist rooms as much as you can
3. Prevent spilling
We all know how much insects love it when we spill things. Make sure your FIBCs are stacked the right way, so they won’t tip over and spill product, attracting unwanted insects to your facility.
4. Clean and check storage space
When moving FIBCs from A to B, make sure to take a look at what the space you are storing your bags looks like when it’s empty. A quick check and clean when those spots are empty every now and then can save you the trouble of having to do a big cleaning session once insects have nestled somewhere in your facility.
